Out of all the movie trailers I've seen over the years, I don't think I've seen one that spoils the movie more than the Atomic Blonde trailer did.
The trailer showed us EVERY SINGLE ACTION SEQUENCE! There are literally no surprises as far as the action goes. Yeah, the action is very well done & it's bad ass, but when you've already seen every action sequence several times already, you don't care anymore.
Thankfully Charlize Theron is really great in this movie. If it wasn't for her this would have been difficult to sit through. Even with her, at times it's kind of a chore to sit through. The plot is beyond convoluted and boring as hell. Atomic Blonde is just under 2 hours long, yet it felt like it was at least 3 hours. I saw this movie at 10:00PM and I was expecting it to be after 1AM when I got out. It felt so damn long and just drags so much on several occasions. A total of 4 people walked out of my showing (2 couples) and several others in the theater became very restless. I heard people shifting in their seats constantly.
Despite my negatives, I would still say I liked this movie more than I didn't. It's decent. Charlize and James McAvoy are really great. I loved the visual aesthetic of this movie. It looks really pretty. It's beautifully shot. The action is great, but I had already seen all the action scenes before being the actual movie.
I also want to bring up the soundtrack. I LOVED the soundtrack, however the songs didn't fit in with this movie's environment whatsoever for me. This movie takes place in Germany during the Cold War, yet there are 80s pop songs through out the film? That just didn't add up for me. These songs would have worked perfectly in Baby Driver. In this, the songs took me out of the movie instead of enhancing the experience.
