Eddie Redmayne....hahahahahaha. Give me a minute......hahahahaha. Sorry, I had to get that out of the way. Wow, Redmayne really embodied his inner Tommy Wiseau. After I got out of the movie, I really had to make sure Tommy Wiseau wasn't on the cast list.
Despite the negative buzz; I'd be lying if I said I wasn't somewhat excited for Jupiter Ascending because I'm a fairly big fan of The Wachowskis. Before I watched Speed Racer, I had heard almost nothing positive about it. Well I watched it and ended up loving it. I also really like Cloud Atlas, while that film received better overall reception than SR; there are still plenty who did not like it and claimed it to be a bad film. So regardless of what I heard about this film, there's no doubt I was going to give it a chance.
Well it turns out I somewhat liked Jupiter Ascending. I had a semi good time watching it. When there is action and Channing Tatum is kicking ass, it's enjoyable to watch. Visually this film is very impressive. There is also a fair share of bad about this film. I cringed a couple of times and laughed at others. As you can guess by my intro, yes Redmayne is really bad. I kid you not, I laughed every time Eddie spoke. The delivery was so utterly ridiculous. The dialogue is also pretty bad all around, laughable at times. And the overall story is weak. The film is also an absolute mess. After all of that, I still liked the movie more than I disliked it because of the action, visuals, and Channing Tatum. Maybe I'm just cutting this movie too much slack :P. It's a pretty goofy movie. But I had fun, so whatever.
You've got to feel bad for Johnny Depp. Once a well regarded actor is now nothing more than a joke. He plays the same role in every single movie. The only difference is the costume he wears from film to film. He's nothing more than a cash grab at this point.
This movie also wants to be a Wes Anderson film so bad and fails miserably.
