Watchmen (2008) Review

Ladies & Gentlemen: I have found a Super Hero movie that is better than The Dark Knight. Yes, I just said that and I truly mean it.
Watchmen is bold, intriguing, and captivating. Visually it's outstanding. The cinematography is stunning, everything looks so crisp. It's got some gnarly action set pieces, with sweet special effects. The soundtrack too, damn that was great. And to top it all off, Watchmen is a comic book film masterpiece.
Jackie Earle Haley was phenomenal as Rorschach. He embodied the character like no other. He drove the film with authority. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was real solid as The Comedian and Billy Crudup made a great Dr. Manhattan. Malin Akerman and Patrick Wilson were very good as Silk Spectre and Nite Owl. I am very impressed with the entire cast. The standout is clearly Jackie Earle Haley. He literally is Rorschach and I mean literally.
Zach Snyder, I've got to hand it to you man. You've made one hell of a film here. I actually just finished reading the Graphic Novel 2 days ago, which I absolutely loved. This film really stays true to the book. If you haven't read the comic, I can see someone not liking this film in that case. But if you've read the book and loved it, what's not to love with this film? I don't see how a fan could complain about this movie.
Along with Christopher Nolan's Batman films, this film proves why DC is superior to Marvel. Quality over quantity, people. Marvel movies in my opinion are just way too childish. There are silly jokes about people not wearing pants, etc. DC movies have some freaken balls, let me tell you! This movie and The Dark Knight Trilogy are not made for kids!! And that's why I love these movies. While Man of Steel wasn't great, at least it had a pair of balls and took risks. Marvel films are way too safe in my opinion. Their studios are more worried about huge paycheck, rather than making quality Super Hero films. I just love the dark tone that the Dark Knight Trilogy and Watchmenhave. I have nothing against Marvel, I just don't find their movies to be that good. I like most of them honestly, but they are almost all either a 3/5 or 3.5/5 in my book.
Not only is Watchmen my favorite comic book (Super Hero) films of all time, it's also one of my favorite movies of all time period.
Rating: 5/5
