My 2015 (87th) Oscar Predictions

Please note: all of these picks aren't necessarily what I hope wins. These picks are based on what I think will win. If I had it my way, I would have The Grand Budapest Hotel winning almost everything it was nominated for :).

Best Picture:

American Sniper
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Imitation Game
The Theory of Everything

Well this is a difficult decision. I'm going to go with my gut and choose Boyhood. Although I do think Linklater has Best Director on lock. So perhaps Best Picture will go to another film.

Best Director:

Birdman - Alejandro G. Iñárritu

Boyhood - Richard Linklater
Foxcatcher - Bennett Miller
The Grand Budapest Hotel - Wes Anderson
The Imitation Game - Morten Tyldum

I would love to see Wes Anderson win. I think it will come down to Richard Linklater or Alejandro Iñárritu. I'll go with Richard Linklater though. The whole 12 years to film thing is too impressive to ignore.

Best Actor in a Leading Role:

Steve Carell in Foxcatcher

Bradley Cooper in American Sniper
Benedict Cumberbatch in The Imitation Game
Michael Keaton in Birdman
Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything

In the end, I think it's either going to be Michael Keaton or Eddie Redmayne. I personally hope Michael Keaton wins, but there's no doubt Eddie Redmayne deserves to win. He did an amazing job portraying Stephen Hawking. Where is Ralph Fiennes nomination!? >:[

Best Actor in a Supporting Role:

Robert Duvall in The Judge

Ethan Hawke in Boyhood
Edward Norton in Birdman
Mark Ruffalo in Foxcatcher
J.K. Simmons in Whiplash

In my opinion J.K. Simmons has this in the bag. Maybe Ethan Hawke could give him a run, but I don't think so.

Best Actress in a Leading Role:

Marion Cotillard in Two Days, One Night

Felicity Jones in The Theory of Everything
Julianne Moore in Still Alice
Rosamund Pike in Gone Girl
Reese Witherspoon in Wild

I think it'll come down to Julianne Moore and Rosamund Pike. I made this choice more on who I hope wins. I do think Pike has a legitimate chance to win. Reese Witherspoon might be able to sneak in and steal the win as well. Don't sleep on Felicity Jones either, this is a very tough category. Great performances all around.

Best Actress in a Supporting Role:

Patricia Arquette in Boyhood

Laura Dern in Wild
Keira Knightley in The Imitation Game
Emma Stone in Birdman
Meryl Streep in Into the Woods

Patricia Arquette is a lock imo. I'll be pretty surprised if she doesn't win this category. I would be more than ok with Emma Stone winning. I thought she was so great in Birdman.

Original Screenplay:

The Grand Budapest Hotel

Was there anything more original than Birdman this year? I don't think so. If it's not Birdman, The Grand Budapest Hotel deserves to win.

Adapted Screenplay:

American Sniper

The Imitation Game
Inherent Vice
The Theory of Everything

Best Foreign Language Film:

Ida - Poland

Leviathan - Russia
Tangerines - Estonia
Timbuktu - Mauritania
Wild Tales - Argentina

Best Animated Feature Film:

Big Hero 6
The Boxtrolls
How to Train Your Dragon 2
Song of the Sea
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya

Last year I thought The Wind Rises more than deserved to win. This year I think The Tale of the Princess Kaguya deserves to win. I do not think that is going to happen though sadly enough :(.

Best Documentary Feature:

Finding Vivian Maier
Last Days in Vietnam
The Salt of the Earth

Film Editing:

American Sniper
The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Imitation Game

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Mr. Turner

Production Design:

The Grand Budapest Hotel
The Imitation Game
Into the Woods
Mr. Turner

Costume Design:

The Grand Budapest
Inherent Vice
Into the Woods
Mr. Turner

I can honestly see anything one of these choices winning. I hope it's Budapest though!

Makeup and Hairstyling:

The Grand Budapest Hotel
Guardians of the Galaxy

Steve Carell was totally transformed in this movie. For that reason I think Foxcatcher will win. However, I would not be surprised if any of these nominations were to win.

Visual Effects:

Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Guardians of the Galaxy
X-Men: Days of Future Past

It's got to be Intersellar right?

Music (Original Score):

The Grand Budapest Hotel - Alexandre Desplat

The Imitation Game - Alexandre Desplat
Interstellar - Hans Zimmer
Mr. Turner - Gary Yershon
The Theory of Everything - Jóhann Jóhannsson

Can The Theory of Everything steal this away from Intersellar again? I sure hope not.

Music (Original Song):

Everything Is Awesome - The Lego Movie

Glory - Selma
Grateful -  Beyond the Lights
I’m Not Gonna Miss You - Glen Campbell…I’ll Be Me
Lost Stars - Begin Again

Sound Editing:

American Sniper
The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies

Sound Mixing:

American Sniper

Boogaloo and Graham
Butter Lamp (La Lampe Au Beurre De Yak)
The Phone Call

Best Animated Short Film:

The Bigger Picture
The Dam Keeper
