Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) Review

Just when I thought Marvel wouldn't be able to top Captain America: The Winter Soldier, along comes Guardians of the Galaxy.
Guardians of the Galaxy is easily Marvel's most unique and entertaining film to date. This film seriously has a massive pair of balls. It took risks that no other Marvel film has even come close to doing. And let me tell you, everything pretty much works. I am the first to admit that I prefer comic book films to be dark and have a serious tone. GOTG is the exact opposite, it's tone is goofy and it doesn't take itself seriously whatsoever. It fully embraces it's fun & goofiness and that's why I loved it so much. The majority of Marvel films jump from tone to tone. At one point the tone is serious, minutes later it will do a complete 180 and throw random jokes in. This film is so consistent.
The main reason why I loved this movie so much is because of it's characters: Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. These guys are seriously all fucking awesome. While Gamora and Drax were slightly under-used; Star-Lord, Rocket, and Groot completely steal the show. All three of these guys had several great moments through out the film. Drax, did however have some great one-liners. Gamora had good moments as well, but not quite like the rest. As a group though, they molded together perfectly and had great chemistry. I can't forget to mention Yandu, he too had some great moments in this film. But I have got to say, Groot was my favorite :).
I've got to give mad props to Chris Pratt. He was incredible as Star-Lord. He was so damn funny and charismatic. The rest of the cast was very solid as well. Bradley Cooper was amazing as Rocket. He must have had a blast voicing Rocket and it shows in the movie. While Groot's vocabulary was minimal, Vin Diesel did exactly what he needed to do. Professional wrestler, David Bautista does a very fine job in his first major role as Drax. Zoe Saldana was also very very good as Gamora, she is obviously a total badass. Michael Rooker as Yondu was a great surprise. I really really enjoyed him.
I've complained a lot in the past about comedy in Marvel films. For me it hasn't worked yet, until now. GOTG is truly hilarious, it has several laugh out loud moments. James Gunn writing is totally brilliant, as well as his directing. All in all GOTG is a fantastic sci-fi adventure film, that isn't like any others. This film is pure fun and entertainment, it's as simple as that. Not to mention, when a movie makes you want to dance that's when you know it's great.
Thank you Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy for completely restoring my faith in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
By the way, can anyone tell me where I can sign up to join The Guardians of the Galaxy?
